Filming Activities Not Allowed in MCO Areas - Finas (Feb 2, 2021 Update)

MCO extended by 2 weeks to Feb 18
The Movement Control Order (MCO), scheduled to end on Feb 4, will be extended by 14 more days to Feb 18, 2021.

MCO 2.0 Extension
According to Senior Minister (Security) Ismail Sabri Yaakob, the second movement control order (MCO 2.0) implemented across a number of federal territories and states has been extended until February 4, 2021.

Statement by Finas
Filming activities are not allowed in any location in six states placed under the Movement Control Order (MCO), according to the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas).
Finas chairman Zakaria Abdul Hamid said this was because the creative industry sector was not listed among the economic sectors allowed to operate during the MCO.
“Finas would like to inform all production companies that filming activities are not allowed in areas placed under the MCO, namely, Penang, Selangor, Federal Territories (Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan), Melaka, Johor and Sabah,” he said in a statement here, today.
However, he said filming activities could carry on as usual in areas placed under the Conditional MCO and Recovery MCO.
“…with condition that they must adhere to all guidelines and standard operating procedures stipulated by the National Security Council comprising the protocols for prevention of disease and restrictions, health screening, cleaning and disinfection of premises, physical distancing and workers safety procedures, and emergency response,” he said.
What it means for us
Zael’s operation is based in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, thus falls within the areas under MCO.
Until further notice and update from Finas, we are not allowed to film during the MCO period (11 Jan 2021 to 26 Jan 2021) which will potentially be extended if the chain of COVID-19 is not sufficiently curbed.
That means our filming plans for Chinese New Year 2021 messages and content will be temporarily halted until the situation changes for the better.
